Weekending
Had more rain this weekend- it rained quite a bit on Saturday, stormed overnight and there was a chance of rain on Sunday but it didn't rain. It seems like we live simultaneously and quite inexplicably in Ohio... and the tropics.
It was the last weekend with Alyssa home with us for the summer. She'll be back, of course, and when she's in college she isn't too far away. Still, it's the beginning of the end of a nice little time with her at home. She's been home with us since May 2nd- you get used to someone being around when they're around for 3 1/2 months. It will take some adjusting to her being gone... while this weekend she was not gone- her departure is coming up imminently.
As soon as I got home from work on Friday in the early afternoon, Alyssa and I went to Home Goods. She'll be living in an apartment this school year as opposed to living in one room, a la her dorm room freshman year and the sorority house last year. She'll have her own bedroom this year and a larger bed than a twin so we needed to get bedding and all that jazz as well as decor. Had a successful trip there and then we decided to stop by Donnie's office to say hi. It's at the same general location- Austin Landing- as Home Goods. I'd never surprised him before at the office (and knew there was a possibility he'd be in a meeting and we wouldn't be able to see him). He was in his office working when we arrived and was indeed surprised to see us when we arrived.
Casual Friday- he wears jeans on most Fridays. Fifteen years ago, he wore a suit and tie to work every day. But when one of the guardians of formal business attire left the firm, the owners relaxed the dress code and Friday became casual Friday for those who didn't need to be in court. Donnie does transactional work not litigation so he's very rarely in court.
Ahhh, TJ Maxx/Homegoods- where dreams to spend money wisely go to die 😆. I mean, she really did need bedding. The rest was harder to make a case for needing but ya know, you gotta make your new place look nice :).
When Donnie got home from work, we decided to get carry out from Hummus. It's local- about a mile and half from our house and I don't know why we'd never tried it before.
It was so good! There were many options for meats, sides, grains, etc. I got lamb pita with just lettuce, feta, cucumbers and meat.
....and chocolate baklava for dessert. YUM!
After dinner, Alyssa and I worked on a photo project for her new apartment. Then she and Donnie watched a movie while I read.
Saturday morning, I got up and ran. Alyssa had a hair appointment which I took her to- her hair place is in Austin Landing where we had just been the day before. One thing I had to do was buy something from Home Goods that we had inadvertently not paid for when we were at Home Goods on Friday. Oops! After checking out Friday and loading up our car, we found something that we hadn't paid for. It was on the bottom portion of our cart and we didn't see it when we loaded items on the counter to pay for them. The line had taken us about twenty minutes to get through and I didn't feel like standing back in line to pay for the item we'd accidentally not paid for. I knew we'd back the next morning and so I went to Home Goods shortly after they open on Saturday to pay for the item. I had a little time left so I went to Kohl's. I rarely shop there- the last time I was there, they didn't have self check outs but they did this time. I bought another wireless bra and a cute pair of reduced price sandals for Alyssa.
After lunch, we went to Sam's Club where we got a bunch of items for Donnie's work and snack items that Alyssa will take to school with her.
After that, we drove to Liberty Center where we met Jacob at an arcade place called In The Game. It's a great place to play fun games- they have classics like skee ball, wac a mole, basketball shooting games, etc.
VR headsets
Alyssa and I played a game where we got the maximum amount of tickets. So fun!
Then we drove a few minutes down the road to Texas Roadhouse for dinner.

That sounds like a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne! It was a good one.
DeleteI love mediterranean food! Maybe that will become a staple of your take out? It can be pretty healthy compared to other take out.
ReplyDeleteThe Texas Roadhouse looks good!
Homegoods is a necessity when outfitting a new place. I hope she likes her new housing at OSU. My sister has a daughter and her boyfriend's daughter to help move in there next weekend.
I think it will be a staple! The price was so reasonable and the food was good! Does one of your nieces go to Purdue? I thought I remember seeing her wear Purdue gear in a picture.
DeleteI hope you share some pics of her apartment next weekend! I love seeing stuff like that; it sounds like a fun weekend for Alyssa to get all of the things she'll be needing. I love what you did Saturday night with Jacob and Alyssa! What a fun way to spend a night. I hope you have a great Monday!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenn! I hope your school day is going well! I was glad Jacob was able to meet us at the play place. He didn’t come with us the last time we went there. I will plan to post pictures of her apartment :).
DeleteSending lots of love and luck to Alyssa! I am sure it will be another fabulous year for her and how exciting she gets to be in an apartment! Sending you hugs Mama- I know it never gets easier but so glad she is so close to you and comes home from time to time! XO
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly! I think it will be a good year for her, too! I’m thinking about you as the date draws nearer…
DeleteThere's a lot to buy for that first apartment. It is an adjustment when they leave. We get so used to them being at home, but that's the cycle of young adult life. That pita sounds good. It has been too hot to do a lot of cooking here too and we've been eating really simple meals for the most part. We have company coming this weekend so I will need to up my game a little but everyone wants easy so easy it will be. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYes, that is the cycle of young adult life! I’m grateful the first two have been able to “fly” … and come back when need be. I hope your weather turns soon but it likely won’t be until September I imagine.
DeleteThat was honest of you to go back and pay for the missed item!
ReplyDeleteI would have felt like I stole the item if I hadn’t, even though it would have been inadvertent.
DeleteWhat a full, fun weekend! I know you will miss Alyssa, but it will be so fun for her to be in a new space. Looking forward to seeing pictures. Hope you have a good start to your week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marilyn! I will plan to post some pictures! It was a fun weekend :).
DeleteSounds like a nice weekend! I wish we could get some rain. They keep forecasting it but we don't get it. No, we just have extreme heat warnings, sadly. We almost went to Texas Roadhouse but I just was not feeling it. I wanted a burger to truthfully, I don't think theirs is very good! Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteYou guys do seem to go there quite a bit- I actually thought of you, lol. I’ve never had their burgers. I always get their smothered chicken….
DeleteWhat a great family weekend! I remember getting my girls set up in their college digs. Bittersweet memories… now they’re both married and I don’t see them often. TG for WhatsApp! I didn’t know about chocolate baklava, yum 😋
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paula! I’d not heard of it either- was do good!! I can imagine how marriage adds a degree of complexity to spending time with your kids. I hope my kids marry but I realize it’s nice in terms of seeing them.
DeleteWe had rain last night for the first time in a couple of months, it was a good amount too and we're forecast more this week too!
ReplyDeleteI hope Alyssa has a good return to college. It sounds like she will have a lot of extra space in the apartment. How lovely to surprise Donnie with a visit. The carry out from Hummus looks good, especially the dessert! Yum!
The arcade place looks like a lot of fun! What a lovely weekend!
Thanks, Kim! It was a good weekend. I’m so glad you guys got rain!! Yah! The food at Hummus was really good. We’ll get it again for sure!
DeleteIt sounds like a very nice weekend...a little bittersweet though, getting ready for Alyssa to go back. I totally get that feeling of getting used to them being home. Enjoy the rest of your time with her!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim! We're down to a few days. I'm glad we got to spend a lot of quality time together this weekend :).
DeleteGreat weekend of family fun. First apartments need lots of things. And Home Goods and TJ Max are great places for them. Glad you can spend lots of quality time with your daughter and Jacob too! Enjoy the last few days with her. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy! I'm grateful we've spent a lot of quality time together recently and really the whole summer. It will make saying good-bye harder in some ways but she's not too far away, thankfully!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteLoved all the photos today, thank you for sharing your smiles.
I am glad you had the summer with Alyssa. That is a gift!! They grow up so fast. I was blessed to spend the weekend with my boys during our family summer bash at the farm. My youngest and I had a fun fishing adventure.... there were a lot of laughs of me falling in the river. Ha!
Happy New Week!
Hi Carla! I was wondering if you were at your parents'farm recently. Your fishing adventure does sound fun- perhaps minus falling into the river!
DeleteThe first adult apartment is so fun! I know you loved those shopping trips with your girl. My son is a rising senior and last year they rented a house - and I swear it was the same run down kind of student house we had in the 80s! They're renting a 5 bedroom apartment this year but sadly he doesn't care about decor so no fun shopping for me :(
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad but it sounds like a typical young man! I think it depends on the campus but many schools around here have sketchy/icky homes fairly near campus that students rent. New apartment complexes are chock full of amenities- roof top pools, saunas, meditation rooms, etc. The two extremes are something! I hope your son has a great last year of college!
DeleteSounds like a perfect weekend! The girls in white and the guys in black at Texas roadhouse was cute :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenni! I noticed that as well and liked it!!
